Today is Sadie’s first birthday. We had a little git-together yesterday to celebrate.
First she opened gifts.
She didn’t have to open this one. It’s a rocking elephant.
She’s not getting a goat no matter how much she begs.
Or stands up by herself!!
But she got her next pair of cowgirl boots! She’s never been without boots since she was born.
Now she needs a hat that fits.
Sadie was completely spoiled.
Now I’m going to share a recipe with you.
A recipe for Chocolate-Covered Shortcake. Mmmm.
Start with one (1) dirt cake. Mine happens to be in a large flowerpot.
(the twigs didn’t want to stay up so I had to tie them)
Dip your finger in the dirt cake and place a tiny bit on Shortcake’s tongue.
Wait until she thinks about the taste for a moment, then put some more dirt cake on a spoon and shove some more into Shortcake’s mouth.
Now scoop a large spoonful of dirt cake onto the spoon and let Shortcake grab the amount she chooses.
Now comes the easy part.
Place a blob (about 1/4 cup) of dirt cake on the tray and let the Shortcake do the rest!
And there you go…one (1) Chocolate-Covered Shortcake!
(her clothes are still soaking…I’ve been too scared lazy to try cleaning them yet)
By the way, serving dessert first is a great way to go because the protein kids eat for the meal helps them digest the sugar in the dessert and they don’t go home with a massive sugar rush!
After dirt cake, we roasted hot dogs over a fire.
I think everybody had a great time.
I didn’t ask very many of the kids though. They were off chasing chickens somewhere so I couldn’t.
Maybe next time.
